Harnessing the Power of the Pink Economy through Economic Advocacy
QACC Africa’s approach is that “economic advocacy”, promoting economic inclusion, leading to economic development, will ultimately achieve economic justice and societal integration for the LGBTQIA+ community, and allow LGBTQIA+ people to sustain their own lives, health, security and education, without relying primarily on outside support, restoring a sense of human dignity.
The THIRD largest global economy!
Africa with a population of close to 1.4 billion has untapped LGBTQIA+ business potential presenting a powerful force for economic activism and change: the Pink Economy.
Kenya is losing an estimated KES 1.3bn a year due to LGBTQIA+ discrimination.
In South Africa the economic cost of LGBTQIA+ discrimination is US$ 316.8 million due to wage discrimination and underemployment related to sexual orientation and gender expression.
To compare: Canada, with a population of 38 million, boasts 100,000 LGBTQIA+ owned businesses generating $22 billion and employing 435,000 people.
